Flowers Around My Neighborhood

‍ ‍Flowers Around My Neighborhood is an ongoing series of diptychs that pairs a darkroom print alongside its transformed mordançage counterpart. The left image presents the photograph in its original form, while the right reveals the same print after undergoing the mordançage process — a darkroom process that alters silver gelatin prints to create lifted, veiled textures.

I created this series to help viewers visually understand what mordançage is and to show the beauty that can come from the process. A subject as delicate and beautiful as a flower can become distorted, chaotic, and unpredictable, yet still remain beautiful in a completely different way.

This work is rooted in my love for imperfection and authenticity. I’m drawn to the idea that flaws, change, and unpredictability can make something feel more honest and human. Through mordançage, I’m able to express that connection to transformation, imperfection, and beauty.
